LIP AUGMENTATION

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic treatment to give you fuller and more attractive lips. It is usually performed by injecting the lips with a substance known as a filler.

Modern fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body. Collagen or fat may also be used, but hyaluronic acid fillers have proven to be safer, last longer and have better results. Besides the filler, the injection may also contain lidocaine, an anesthetic to improve comfort.

Your doctor will discuss your reasons for undergoing the procedure and how realistic your expectations are before deciding whether this procedure is right for you.

How does lip augmentation work?

Lip augmentation is usually performed as an office procedure. If fat is used, it will be harvested from another part of your body and a period of monitoring is necessary following the procedure. Fine needles are used to inject the filler at precise areas in the lips and around the mouth to improve shape, structure and volume. Following treatment, ice is gently applied over the area to reduce any pain or swelling. Following a period of healing, your lips will have a natural feel and you may then use lipstick and other lip products as you normally would.

How often can you get lip augmentation?

You can get repeat treatments every six months. Scientists have found that hyaluronic acid injections prompt the skin to produce more collagen, creating more natural plumpness in the lips.

Can you eat after lip augmentation?

Yes, but stick to our top tips, and you won’t go wrong: On the first day stick to foods that are easy to eat and chew, this means you’re less likely to have to wipe your lips and disturb the injection site. Avoid vitamin E supplements for a couple of days as this can increase the risk of bruising.
